Personal self-discipline and accountability are the focus of the Code of Personal Conduct for MACA/HS students.

We subscribe to the instructions in Philippians 4:8-9, …whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Students are counseled and directed to behave in this manner.

School-Wide Behavior

Students are to respect and behave according to standards of behavior that would be Christ-honoring. This would be evident in their dress, their language, their actions, and their thoughts. Although our desire is that
the student would behave in this manner as evidence of a life dedicated to Christ, we realize that students
may not have made professions of faith, or may need more guidance. Therefore, the policies in this handbook are set up for students to follow.

Students are expected to:

Follow the dress code as outlined in this handbook.
Complete homework each evening it is assigned.
Take test folders home to be signed each weekend and return them on Monday. Communication envelopes must be returned each Monday with the appointed student.
Students will work quietly, listen carefully, and follow the directions of the teacher.
Be respectful to others, of property and to those in authority. Students should be kind to others, maintain politeness, and strive for a positive attitude.
Not chew gum in school or on the playground during school hours. All food and drink should be consumed only in the cafeteria or at the picnic tables outside. Exceptions may be made for parties or through administrative approval.
Avoid loud noised in the building during school hours. There should be no communication (verbal/non-verbal) in class during tests, quizzes, or instruction time. Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.
Leave electronic equipment and toys at home, except on special days with prior permission of the classroom teacher. Students may carry cell phones in their backpacks, but the phones must be turned off. Cell phones used during school hours will be confiscated and must be reclaimed by the parent.


Classroom Behavior

1. The classroom teacher will maintain order in the classroom at all times.

2. Students in the classroom are expected to respect the teacher, be prepared for class, respond the first time to the teacher, and follow all classroom rules. Students are dismissed when the teacher dismisses them, not when the bell rings. Teachers are encouraged to develop classroom incentive plans within the school’s guidelines.

3. Class participation, which comprises ten percent of the student’s grade in a class, will include the behavior of the student in its computation. The student will also receive a conduct grade in each subject.

4. Once the class is called to order the students are to be attentive. If a student is reprimanded by the teacher for disruptive behavior such as talking out of turn, the student will lose class participation points. If the student continues the behavior, the student will be given an office referral.

The classroom teacher will give office referrals for discipline issues as needed, and for serious offenses students will be sent to the Secondary Principal’s office immediately. Inappropriate or disallowed materials will be taken from the student and given to the Secondary Principal. These may or may not be returned, at the Secondary Principal’s discretion.


Academic Work Behavior

It is expected that each student will do his/her own schoolwork for each subject. Cheating, plagiarism, lying, and forgery will be handled in the following manner:

The student will receive a zero for the work the first time.

The student will receive a zero for the work, attend a meeting with the Secondary Principal and affected faculty member, and be suspended for a day if there is a second occurrence.

The student will be expelled if any of these occur a third time.

Social Behavior

Each student is personally responsible for his/her behavior at all times. The conduct of the student after school and outside of school activities is within his/her control and the responsibility of his/her parents, unless it harms the ministry of the school. Parents may be provided with information on student activity outside of school that is illegal or harmful, if that information becomes known to MACA/HS.

We determine to continuously point our students toward Christ’s teachings and model Christ-like behavior for them. We will partner with the parents to help students learn what is good, right, and true. Our desire would be for students who make wise decisions and seek God’s will in all they do.

Immorality

The Secondary Principal will handle any instance of student immorality on a case-by-case basis.

Substance Abuse

Any involvement by a MACA/HS student in the use of illegal substances may result in the expulsion of the student and the involvement of the appropriate authorities.

Harassment

Harassment of any kind, sexual or otherwise, is not tolerated at MACA/HS. Harassment may include, but is not limited to, the following: teasing, name calling, hurtful comments, spreading rumors, inappropriate touching, and pressure to be involved in inappropriate activities. The Secondary Principal will handle incidents of harassment on a case-by-case basis.

Internet Use

Students are encouraged to guard their hearts and minds through careful use of the Internet. Parents should guard their family computers. Students who promote immoral or inflammatory information on the Internet will be disciplined. The school Internet may not be used except for school study and intellectual purposes. All computer lab rules must be followed.

Prohibited Items

Weapons on school property pose a threat to the safety of the students and staff and are prohibited. Any student possessing a gun of any type, knife of any type, or other weapon of any type will have that weapon confiscated and will be expelled from the school. The student may also be reported to the police, at the discretion of the Secondary Principal. Permission for special exceptions for a school project may be given. Matches, lighters, and other flammables are also not allowed.

Detention

Detention is served every Tuesday afternoon after school beginning at 3:00 p.m. The student will be billed $10.00 for every hour of detention served. Parents will be notified when a student receives detention through the office referral form.

Suspension, Probation, and Expulsion

A student may be suspended, expelled, or placed on probation at the discretion of the Secondary Principal. A written record of this action, through the office referral form, will be sent home to the parents and must be returned signed.

Behaviors that would be considered include, but are not limited to:
Continuous disregard for school rules
Persistent negative attitude impacting and influencing the school environment
Fighting or abusive roughhousing
Willful damage to property
Blatant disrespect
Vulgarity
Sexual immorality
Threats
Inappropriate conduct outside of school impacting the school’s witness to the community
Failure of the student’s parents to comply with the school’s disciplinary procedures

A student who receives an In-House Suspension (IHS) will spend the day, or days, in school isolated from the student body, and receive a zero in each subject area for that day.

A student who receives Out-of-School Suspension ( OSS ) will be sent home for the day, or for a number of days, and receive a zero in each subject area for that day.

Any student with IHS or OSS may not participate nor attend any after school events on the day of their suspension.

A student who is placed on probation will have the terms of that probation outlined in writing on the office referral form. The student will be removed from probation once the terms of the probation are met.

A student who is expelled will not be able to return to the school.

Use of School Property

MACA/HS students are expected to be good stewards of school and church property. This responsibility includes keeping the grounds and halls free from trash, helping keep classrooms neat, keeping bathrooms clean, and avoiding damaging school property.

Lockers

Each student is assigned a school locker and is responsible for that locker. School staff will inspect lockers periodically. Damage to a locker is the responsibility of the student the locker is assigned to and will be billed to his/her account.

Textbooks

School textbooks are very expensive and students should take care of the textbooks assigned to them. Students are responsible for any damage or loss of textbooks. A student will be billed a fine for any unreasonable damage to a textbook, or for the cost of a lost or irreparably damaged textbook.

Telephones

School phones are for business and emergency use only. Students should have transportation arrangements made in advance. Students may use the telephone in the secondary office for necessary calls to parents. Students may have cell phones with them at school but they must be turned off during school hours. Students may use their cell phones to contact their parents after school dismisses.

Copier Use

Students are not to use school copiers without the permission of a member of the staff. Students may ask for help in making copies.

Laboratories and Library

The science and computer labs, and the library, have rules for use unique to their function and need for safety. Students are expected to know and abide by these specialized rules.
