Personal self-discipline
and accountability are the focus of the Code of Personal Conduct for MACA/HS
students.
Students are to respect
and behave according to standards of behavior that would be Christ-honoring.
This would be evident in their dress, their language, their actions, and
their thoughts. Although our desire is that Students are expected to: •
Follow the dress code
as outlined in this handbook. 1. The classroom teacher
will maintain order in the classroom at all times. 4. Once the class is called to order the students are to be attentive. If a student is reprimanded by the teacher for disruptive behavior such as talking out of turn, the student will lose class participation points. If the student continues the behavior, the student will be given an office referral. The classroom teacher
will give office referrals for discipline issues as needed, and for serious
offenses students will be sent to the Secondary Principal’s office
immediately. Inappropriate or disallowed materials will be taken from
the student and given to the Secondary Principal. These may or may not
be returned, at the Secondary Principal’s discretion. It is expected that each student will do his/her own schoolwork for each subject. Cheating, plagiarism, lying, and forgery will be handled in the following manner: The student will receive a zero for the work the first time. The student will receive a zero for the work, attend a meeting with the Secondary Principal and affected faculty member, and be suspended for a day if there is a second occurrence. The student will be
expelled if any of these occur a third time.
Each student is personally responsible for his/her behavior at all times. The conduct of the student after school and outside of school activities is within his/her control and the responsibility of his/her parents, unless it harms the ministry of the school. Parents may be provided with information on student activity outside of school that is illegal or harmful, if that information becomes known to MACA/HS. We determine to continuously point our students toward Christ’s teachings and model Christ-like behavior for them. We will partner with the parents to help students learn what is good, right, and true. Our desire would be for students who make wise decisions and seek God’s will in all they do. Immorality The Secondary Principal will handle any instance of student immorality on a case-by-case basis. Substance Abuse Any involvement by a MACA/HS student in the use of illegal substances may result in the expulsion of the student and the involvement of the appropriate authorities. Harassment Harassment of any kind, sexual or otherwise, is not tolerated at MACA/HS. Harassment may include, but is not limited to, the following: teasing, name calling, hurtful comments, spreading rumors, inappropriate touching, and pressure to be involved in inappropriate activities. The Secondary Principal will handle incidents of harassment on a case-by-case basis. Internet Use Students are encouraged to guard their hearts and minds through careful use of the Internet. Parents should guard their family computers. Students who promote immoral or inflammatory information on the Internet will be disciplined. The school Internet may not be used except for school study and intellectual purposes. All computer lab rules must be followed. Prohibited Items Weapons on school
property pose a threat to the safety of the students and staff and are
prohibited. Any student possessing a gun of any type, knife of any type,
or other weapon of any type will have that weapon confiscated and will
be expelled from the school. The student may also be reported to the police,
at the discretion of the Secondary Principal. Permission for special exceptions
for a school project may be given. Matches, lighters, and other flammables
are also not allowed.
Detention is served
every Tuesday afternoon after school beginning at 3:00 p.m. The student
will be billed $10.00 for every hour of detention served. Parents will
be notified when a student receives detention through the office referral
form. Suspension, Probation, and Expulsion A student may be suspended, expelled, or placed on probation at the discretion of the Secondary Principal. A written record of this action, through the office referral form, will be sent home to the parents and must be returned signed. • Behaviors
that would be considered include, but are not limited to: A student who receives Out-of-School Suspension ( OSS ) will be sent home for the day, or for a number of days, and receive a zero in each subject area for that day. Any student with IHS or OSS may not participate nor attend any after school events on the day of their suspension. A student who is placed on probation will have the terms of that probation outlined in writing on the office referral form. The student will be removed from probation once the terms of the probation are met. A student who is expelled
will not be able to return to the school.
MACA/HS students are expected to be good stewards of school and church property. This responsibility includes keeping the grounds and halls free from trash, helping keep classrooms neat, keeping bathrooms clean, and avoiding damaging school property. Lockers Each student is assigned a school locker and is responsible for that locker. School staff will inspect lockers periodically. Damage to a locker is the responsibility of the student the locker is assigned to and will be billed to his/her account. Textbooks School textbooks are very expensive and students should take care of the textbooks assigned to them. Students are responsible for any damage or loss of textbooks. A student will be billed a fine for any unreasonable damage to a textbook, or for the cost of a lost or irreparably damaged textbook. Telephones School phones are for business and emergency use only. Students should have transportation arrangements made in advance. Students may use the telephone in the secondary office for necessary calls to parents. Students may have cell phones with them at school but they must be turned off during school hours. Students may use their cell phones to contact their parents after school dismisses. Copier Use Students are not to use school copiers without the permission of a member of the staff. Students may ask for help in making copies. Laboratories and Library The science and computer
labs, and the library, have rules for use unique to their function and
need for safety. Students are expected to know and abide by these specialized
rules.
