We believe how students dress strongly influences their behavior. Uniforms take the focus off clothing, discourage competition, and encourage modesty. Uniform pants and skirts may be purchased from our provider, or from a department store. Monogrammed polo shirts are available only through the school. Forms will be available in the secondary office. P.E. uniforms, required for P.E. classes, are available only through MACA and may be ordered at Parent Orientation. Students are to be well groomed at all times. Clothing must be in good condition, only neat mending is allowed. Hats and any unusual hair decorations are not allowed except for special events. A student is to arrive at school in dress code, and leave the campus in dress code. Exceptions may be made with permission.
Pants Students must wear khaki or navy uniform pants. Pants may be uniform pants purchased from our uniform company, or may be uniform pants purchased from other companies such as Lands End or department stores with school uniforms. Care must be taken that they fit as uniform pants fit and are not too loose or tight or too faddish (such as low rise). If in doubt, the student should bring the pants to the Secondary Principal for approval. Belts must be worn at all times with looped pants. Skirts Female students may also wear khaki or navy skirts below the knee in length. Only one slit is allowed in the skirt and it must not go more than two inches above the knee. Shirts Students must wear monogrammed polo shirts available only through the secondary school office. Forms will be available. Students may choose from the colors and styles available. Shirts must be tucked in. Shoes Students must wear regular shoes, such as loafers, oxfords, etc. They must be closed toe and heel. Shoes should not be in unusual colors that detract from the uniform appearance. No high heels are allowed. Laced shoes must be kept tied. Socks Students must wear
navy socks with navy pants and khaki socks with khaki pants. Socks must
completely cover the space between the shoes and the pants. Girls may
wear white, cream or navy blue tights or knee socks with skirts. (required for Chapel day and special events) Boys are to wear a light blue dress shirt with matching tie, and khaki or navy pants. Girls are to wear a light blue oxford dress shirt and khaki or navy skirt. Shirts are to be tucked in. Students are to wear dress shoes conforming to the standard uniform rules. Standard uniform rules
for belts and socks apply. No unusual haircuts,
colors or styles are allowed and hair may not be in the eyes and must
be well groomed. Boys may not have hair over their collars, or more than
halfway over their ears, and no facial hair is allowed. Girls may wear makeup, however it must not be unusual or over done. Black nail polish is not allowed. Jewelry and accessories must not be excessive or inappropriate. No body piercing or visible tattoos are allowed. Girls may wear one pair of earrings. The administration
reserves the right to ban any type of jewelry or accessory. Students may wear
non-uniform coats and jackets to and from school, and when outside. Once
inside the building, the student must take these off or be in violation
of the dress code. Every other Friday at MACA/HS will be a dress-down day, unless a certain school event takes precedent. Other dress down days may be determined based on circumstances. The dress down uniform
is jeans or similar pants in good condition, t-shirts or similar shirts
with no inappropriate logos, tennis shoes or other closed-toe shoes, and
socks. Inappropriate outfits will cause the student to lose the privilege
of dressing down. The Secondary Principal determines the appropriateness
of an outfit.
Students must dress
modestly and appropriately at all school extracurricular activities.
Special Events and Field Trips Dress code for special
events and field trips will be determined based on the activity.
Consequences of Dress Code Violations Students will be checked
for compliance in homeroom and throughout the school day. The homeroom
teacher will tabulate dress code violations, with input from other teachers.
Three dress code violations will result in a detention. Continued dress
code violations may indicate an unwillingness to comply and may result
in an interview with the Secondary Principal. In extreme cases or where
modesty is at issue, a parent may be asked to bring the student a change
of clothing.
